El Oro parakeet is one the emblematic endemic birds found in the south of Ecuador in The Buenaventura Reserve.
This bird was discovered in 1980 and the reserve protects a narow zone of cloud forest habitat in southern Ecuador. Size of the reserve more than 5000 ha (12,000 acres).

Size 23 to 24 cm. Very local in foothill and lower subtropical forest on west slope in south (el Oro and Azuay); Mostly green bright with forehead bright red, shows no pale scaling on breast. Some blue in primaries, greater primary-coverts bright red (conspicuous in flight); tail dark maroon.

To try to find this bird. Depending on your luck, we should walk about 1 km, on a bit easy and steep open trail; Actually also depending on the season we go,
The arrival of this bird to the place is almost imperceptible, Some parakeets actually are noisy, but this bird makes very little noise.
