Golden-olive Woodpecker Ecuador
Size: 21,5 – 22 cm
Widespread and fairly common in west of Ecuador, in humid an arid forest from lowlands up into lower subtropics; less numerous in subtropical forest and borders on east slope. In west the male has crown and nape crimson and somewaht with gray, with contrasting whitish face. Above is golden-olive; rump yellowish barred olive; tail dusky-olive outerfeathers yellower. Throat black, finely speckled white on lower throat, and bordered by red malar streak; underparts closely barred dusky-olive and yellowish. Female similar with most of crown gray (only nape crimson), lacking red malar streak, and entire throat finely speckled white. East-slope birds somewhat larger.

Habits:
Usually is found single although also in pairs. Forages in varying leves mostly in trunks and larger horizontal branches, In the forest often accompanies mixed flocks.
In the city of Loja the often can be recognaiced its presence first, by hiring his voice; it has been seen on trees along the Malacatos and Zamora rivers as well at the parque Simón Bolivar
