CAJAS NATIONAL PARK
BOMBUSCARO RIVER, TROPICAL FOREST (Zamora Province)
It is located on the west side of the city of Cuenca, it has a surface of 28 544 hectares. It has two access roads: Cuenca – Sayausí – Quinoas – Miguir – Molleturo (Northern limit), with a paved highway, and Cuenca – San Joaquín – Soldados – Angas – Chaucha (Southern limit), non-paved road.
In the Park there is a total of 235 identified lakes. Rivers that end in others and are tributaries of the Pacific Ocean and of the Amazon River are originated in the area. Yanuncay and the Tomebamba rivers are originated in the area, which run through the of Cuenca.
The Topography of the Park is very irregular, the sector of lowest altitude is Llaviuco (3 150 m.a.s.l) and the highest point of elevation is the mountain Arrquitectos (Architects) at 4450 m.a.s.l.
