This relaxed half-day birdwatching tour explores some of the best birding locations around the city of Loja. The excursion focuses on accessible habitats close to the city, combining Andean foothill forest and small wetland areas that attract a variety of bird species.
The tour begins at Parque Universitario La Argelia, a forest reserve located on the outskirts of the city. This beautiful protected area preserves native Andean vegetation and offers excellent opportunities to observe forest birds along its trails. Walking is of moderate effort while searching for hummingbirds, tanagers, flycatchers, and other species typical of the Andean foothills.
Some notable birds that may be encountered in this area include the colorful Rainbow Starfrontlet, the impressive Bearded Guan, and the striking Blue-capped Tanager, among many other Andean species.
If time allows, the excursion may also include a visit to a small wetland area in the northern part of the city near Carigán, where it is sometimes possible to observe aquatic and wetland birds such as herons, ducks, and other water-associated species.
This tour is ideal for visitors with limited time who would like to experience birdwatching around Loja while enjoying nearby natural areas and diverse habitats.
