Private 10-Day / 9-Night Amazon Birding Expedition
In November 2026, Exploraves will lead a private 10-day birdwatching and photography expedition through the Ecuadorian Amazon, combining the remarkable forests and wetlands of Limoncocha with the wildlife-rich landscapes of Yasuní National Park and the Sani Community.
This expedition has been designed for a bird photographer traveling from Malaysia, with a special focus on finding and photographing a wide variety of Amazonian birds, including toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, antpittas, trogons, hummingbirds, macaws, jacamars, antbirds, antshrikes and many other species. The journey will include birding around Limoncocha Lagoon, forest areas toward Shushufindi, the observation towers of Yasuní and Sani, clay licks and other productive habitats of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
A Private Amazon Birding & Photography Expedition
This private expedition combines some of the most rewarding birding environments of the Ecuadorian Amazon, from the wetlands and forests of Limoncocha to the pristine rainforest of Yasuní National Park and the ancestral territory of the Sani Community.
During the 10-day journey, we will spend several days in each area, allowing enough time to search for a wide variety of Amazonian birds and to dedicate time to photography. Birding will take place around Limoncocha Lagoon, along forest trails and roads toward Shushufindi, and in the Yasuní and Sani areas, including observation towers and clay licks.
The combination of different habitats and several days in the field gives us opportunities to encounter toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, antpittas, trogons, hummingbirds, macaws, jacamars, antbirds, antshrikes, cotingas and many other species of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Limoncocha
Limoncocha Reserve is one of the first important birding destinations of this Amazon expedition. Located in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the reserve combines rainforest, wetlands and the beautiful Limoncocha Lagoon, creating excellent conditions for observing a wide variety of bird species.
During our stay, we will spend several days birding around the lagoon, forest trails and surrounding areas, including productive birding locations along the route toward Shushufindi. The variety of habitats allows us to search for toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, antbirds, antshrikes, jacamars and many other Amazonian species.
The area also offers excellent opportunities for bird photography, with time to observe birds carefully and work with different photographic situations in the forest and around the wetlands.

Yasuni National Park
Yasuní National Park is one of the most extraordinary areas of rainforest in Ecuador and an important part of this Amazon birdwatching and photography expedition. The extensive tropical forests, wetlands and rivers of the Yasuní region support an exceptional diversity of birds and other wildlife.
During our stay in the Yasuní area, we will explore different habitats and use observation towers that provide a wider view over the rainforest canopy. We will also visit clay licks, where birds gather to consume mineral-rich soil, creating unique opportunities for observation and photography.
The forests of Yasuní offer the possibility of encountering a remarkable variety of Amazonian birds, including toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, macaws, jacamars, antbirds, antshrikes and many other species. Along with the birds, the forest is home to monkeys and other wildlife, adding another dimension to the experience.
Birding Highlights of the Ecuadorian Amazon
This expedition offers the opportunity to search for a remarkable variety of Amazonian birds across different habitats, from wetlands and river edges to terra firme forest and the upper levels of the rainforest canopy.
Among the birds we hope to encounter are toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, antpittas, trogons, hummingbirds, macaws, jacamars, antbirds, antshrikes and cotingas. The observation towers and clay licks will add further opportunities to observe birds from different perspectives and to photograph species that can be difficult to see from the forest floor.
Beyond the birds, the expedition will also provide opportunities to experience the extraordinary wildlife of the Ecuadorian Amazon, including monkeys and many other creatures that share these forests.
