🦜 AMAZON & YASUNÍ NATIONAL PARK ECUADOR BIRDING & PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR – 10 DAYS

A 10-Day Amazon Birding & Photography Adventure

The Ecuadorian Amazon is one of the most exciting destinations in South America for birdwatching and bird photography. This 10-day, 9-night tour combines the remarkable birdlife of Limoncocha, the forests of Yasuní National Park and the Sani Community, offering an opportunity to experience different Amazonian habitats while searching for an extraordinary diversity of birds.

The tour is designed for birdwatchers and photographers who want to spend meaningful time in the field, rather than simply passing through the rainforest. We will explore lagoons, wetlands, forest trails, roads, rivers and areas of mature rainforest, with opportunities to observe birds at different levels of the forest and from strategically located observation towers.

From colorful macaws, toucans and aracaris to tanagers, woodpeckers, trogons, antpittas, hummingbirds, jacamars, antbirds and many other species, every day brings new possibilities. The extraordinary biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon makes this a destination where both experienced birders and photographers can discover something special.

Limoncocha Reserve

Limoncocha is an excellent starting point for this Amazon birding experience. Its combination of rainforest, wetlands and the beautiful Limoncocha Lagoon creates a rich mosaic of habitats that supports an impressive variety of birds.

We will spend several days exploring the reserve and surrounding areas, allowing time to search for birds along the lagoon, forest trails and roads through the Amazonian landscape. The route toward Shushufindi also provides opportunities to explore additional habitats and look for species that may not be encountered around the lagoon itself.

Birdwatching in Limoncocha can produce a wide range of species, including toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, antbirds, antshrikes, jacamars and many other birds of the lowland rainforest.

Yasuní National Park

Yasuní National Park is one of the great highlights of this tour. Located in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon, Yasuní protects vast areas of tropical rainforest and supports an extraordinary diversity of birds and other wildlife.

Our time in the Yasuní region will focus on exploring different forest habitats and visiting productive locations where birds can be observed from a different perspective. Observation towers allow us to look across and above the forest canopy, while clay licks provide special opportunities to observe birds gathering to consume mineral-rich soil.

The Yasuní forests offer possibilities for encountering macaws, parrots, toucans, aracaris, woodpeckers, tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, antbirds, antshrikes, jacamars and many other species. The surrounding forest is also home to monkeys and a fascinating variety of other Amazonian wildlife.

Birding Highlights

One of the great attractions of this tour is the variety of bird families that can be encountered across the different Amazonian habitats. Rather than focusing on only a few target species, the tour offers opportunities to observe and photograph a broad spectrum of Amazonian birdlife.

Among the birds we may look for are toucans and aracaris, colorful tanagers, woodpeckers, trogons, antpittas, hummingbirds, macaws, jacamars, antbirds, antshrikes, cotingas and many other forest species. Birding will be guided by local knowledge, habitat and bird activity, while remaining flexible enough to take advantage of unexpected encounters.

A Tour Designed for Birdwatchers & Photographers

This Amazon experience is designed to give birdwatchers and photographers enough time to observe birds carefully and enjoy the process of finding them. Early mornings, productive forest trails, wetlands, observation towers and clay licks provide different opportunities for both observation and photography.

Whether your priority is building a large bird list, searching for particular species or capturing memorable photographs, Exploraves can adapt the experience to your interests and target birds
