Distribution

Amazilia Hummingbird. to about 2200 meters

Often common in desert scrub, deciduos woodland and borders, and gardens in more arid lowlands of west, in south also ranging up into arid semiopen highlands.

Highlands birds may represent a separate species; A. alticola (Loja Hummingbird). Loja Hummingbird.

Loja Hummingbird is the emblematic bird of Loja.

Description.

Bill essentially atraight (21mm) reddish pink with black tip. Sexs alike.

Western lowlands birds shining to bronzy green above. Upper throat and sides of neck glittering green with chest white; lower underparts mostly rufous, somewhat variable in extend, lowermost belly and crissum white. Tail bronzy green.

Loja Hummingbird.- Highland birds similar but tail mainly rufous, central feathers bronzy green. Southern Azuay birds quite different, showing much whiter underparts (with little or no rufous), rufous of tail extending onto uppertail-coverts, and peerhaps a blacker bill.

Habits: In the city of Loja is found in gardens and parks. At the surrounding of loja is found also is scrub grass vegetation.
