In October 2017 I joined up with Pablo Andrade in Loja for a tour of Southern Ecuador including Tapichalaca Reserve, San Francisco Reserve, Podacarpus NP, Copalinga Reserve and the Tumbes reserves of Jorupe and Utuana. Pablo knows all these locations extremely well and has encyclopedic knowledge of the bird’s habits and bird calls. Because of the number of sites visited the tour was by nature intensive but the birding never seemed rushed and there was always time to admire the key species and seek out the skulkers. Pablo’s modus operandi is to locate the bird and then quietly point it out to the unsuspecting birder; if this unfussed approach suites you then I’d strongly suggest Pablo as a guide.  Accommodation, the local food and transport was first rate and all added to the tour experience.
