Birds of the city of Loja, update 2025
Birds recorded in the city of Loja, around of the city and in the Parque recreacional la Argelia. This is not a complete list; it’s just some of the birds I’ve recently added—ones I had seen before, as well as in the past few months.
November 4, 2025. Punzara; south of the city: Band-tailed Seedeater, Purple-collared Woodstar (female)
November 2, 2025: Zamora River, North of the city of Loja: Vanellus chilensis, Avefría Sureña (Ligle Sureño), Southern Lapwing. Found north North of the city of Loja, 2 individuals.
November 2, 2025: Zamora River, North of the city of Loja. Comb Duck, Pato Crestudo American, sarkidiornis silvicola, 1 individual.
October: Vanellus chilensis, Avefría Sureña (Ligle Sureño), Southern Lapwing. Found north North of the city of Loja, 2 individuals together with a group of Cattle Egrets.
2025 august: Torrent Duck Merganetta armata 1 female around the city of Loja, Caballeria. By Pablo Vélez.

Black-necked Stilt ( Himantopus mexicanus melanurus – Abril 2025). Chestnut-collared Swift. A flock of Chestnut-collared Swift has been regularly observed here in the city of Loja for about 15 years, suggesting the species may be locally resident. Gray-rumped Swift !!. White-collared Swift.
